NC State track and field found itself in a busy weekend, competing in multiple events. The Pack ran at the Doc Hale Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia and the Camel City Invitational in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
First up in the Doc Hale Invitational, senior Sam Bush earned first place in the one-mile run. Her time of 4:30.11 proved to be very impressive as she looks to finish her time with the red-and-white strong.
Freshman Patrick Tuohy turned in a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter race. With a time of 1:48.41, Tuohy put himself atop NC State’s indoor top 10 list. The new addition to the Pack is quickly establishing himself as a key member of the squad.
The Wolfpack enjoyed a solid performance in the women’s weight throw event, totaling a pair of top-eight finishes. Graduate Makala Wright finished seventh with a score of 18.17 meters, while senior Sydney Freeman totaled 17.80 meters to place eighth in the competition. Sophomore Natalie Griffith placed just inside the top 15 at 14th, registering a 15.70-meter score.
Sophomore Tony Taylor II took home two top-10 finishes, in the weight throw and eighth place and in the shot put, ninth.
Meanwhile, in the Camel City Invitational, the Wolfpack dominated the 800-meter event. Sophomores Kate Putman and Angelina Napoleon finished in first and second place respectively. Putman recorded a time of 2:09.17, while Napoleon finished in 2:11.13. Freshman Justine Preisano took fourth place with a time of 2:14.30 in her first chance to compete in the event. Also making her indoor debut, junior Olivia Haas finished the 1000m in 3:01.81 to take home second place.
In the 3000-meter event, Putman and Napoleon once again dominated. Putman posted a first-place finish of 9:31.91 and Napoleon notched a 9:34.18 finish, good for second place in the event. On the men’s side of the 3000-meter race, the Pack also took first place as graduate Kevin Antczak earned a blazing fast 8:02.26 time in the event. The mark was Antczak’s best at NC State and a top-ten all-time finish in program history.
Next up, the Wolfpack will compete in four separate events, each starting on Friday. NC State will compete in the Eagle Elite, hosted by Boston College, the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, hosted by Liberty, the David Hemery Valentine Invite, hosted by Boston University and finally, the Tiger Paw Invite hosted by Clemson.
