It was a special night for NC State swimming and diving. The men and women delivered dominant results against UNC-Wilmington in Raleigh — winning 161-114 and 176-111, respectively — while honoring its 11 seniors and fifth-year students.
In what was a strong performance overall, it was the freestyle swimmers who put on a clinic against UNCW. In the 200-freestyle relays, both the men’s and women’s squads had a day, setting pool records in the event.
In the 50 free for both the women’s and men’s sides, the team swept the first-place spots courtesy of junior Cassie Moses and sophomore Wells Walker. It was the pair’s first victories in that race. Moses doubled up her first-place finishes when she took the top spot in the 100 free with a time of 49.60.
In the 100, 200 and 500 free, the Wolfpack took first place across the board for both the men’s and women’s sides. Moses and redshirt sophomore Quintin McCarty took first in the 100 free. Freshman Lisa Nystrand and graduate Luke Miller took first in the 200 free with times 1:48.01 and 1:33.89, respectively. Juniors Emma Hastings and Kyle Ponsler took first in the 500 before the relay teams set pool records and took the top two spots.
In the butterfly events, the team saw multiple swimmers earn personal bests or nearing them. In the 100 fly, freshman Sophie Scadron posted a personal best with a time of 29.12. In the same event, freshman Leah Shackley and senior Sam Hoover posted their second-best times of the season. Times of 54.12 for Scadron and 46.61 for Hoover were enough for the two to earn a second and first-place finish, respectively.
On the diving board, the Pack made an impressive not-so-splash with multiple first-place and podium finishes. Senior Ashton Zuburg earned first and second in the one-meter and three-meter events with scores of 287.40 and 281.40, respectively.
Sophomore Elisabeth Rockefeller traded with Zuburg in the two events, earning second in the one-meter and then first in the three-meter. She earned a 273.38 and 297.00. Freshman Calvin LeBlanc faired similarly to Zuburg with first and second place finisshes in the one-meter and three-meter events, respectively, with scores of 321.53 and 307.88.
The Pack has one more meet before it gets ready for ACC and NCAA Tournament competitions and it’s one that is circled on its calendar every year.
Heading 30 miles west, the Pack will travel to Chapel Hill to take on the Tar Heels in its final regular season meet of the season. With both sides boasting men’s and women’s teams in the top 25, it will be a must-see matchup.
Scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, the Pack will look to conclude the 2024-2025 season on a high note.
