This past weekend, NC State track and field competed in four different events: the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational, the Liberty University Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, the Clemson University Tiger Paw Invitational and the Boston College Eagle Elite Invitational.
The highlight of the weekend came when junior distance runner Grace Hartman clocked a 4:24.76 mile at Boston University. It became the third fastest mile in NCAA history and moved Hartman to second on NC State’s all-time top-10 list.
Also at Boston University, graduate distance runner Kevin Antczak finished the men’s 5,000-meter race with a time of 13:39.56, moving him to No. 3 on NC State’s all-time indoor top-10 list. In the men’s 3,000-meter race, graduate distance runner Brett Gardner clocked a 7:50.23 for the No. 3 spot on NC State’s all-time indoor top-10 list.
Over at Boston College in the women’s 3,000 meter, Hartman placed first with a time of 8:46.57 for the No. 2 spot on NC State’s indoor all-time top-10 list. Teammate junior distance runner Hannah Gapes finished close behind, clocking in at 8:51.19 for third place.
Sophomore distance runner Kate Putman was the only other athlete to compete at Boston College, running in the women’s mile and 1,500 meter. In the mile, Putman finished 25th at 4:48.80 and in the 1,500 meter, she clocked a 4:27.84 for 23rd.
At Liberty University, junior distance runner Jimmy Mullarkey finished second in the men’s 3,000-meter race with a season-best time of 8:07.87 for his first podium finish of the season. In the same race, freshman distance runner Brayden Marshall finished 21st unattached with a time of 8:35.42. In the men’s mile, graduate distance runner Travis Koekemoer finished in top half with a time of 4:12.49 to place 16th.
Down at Clemson, sophomore sprinter Jordyn Parker moved to seventh on the program’s indoor all-time top-10 list when she clocked a 24.52 in the women’s 200 meter. Freshman jumper Audrey Jenkins also made the top 10 list when she finished fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.71 meters. In the triple jump, sophomore Jayda Hunter leaped to No. 5 on NC State’s indoor all-time top-10 list with a personal best of 12.83 meters for fifth place. In the men’s high jump, senior Charles McBride placed fourth with a 2.16-meter jump.
In the women’s 400 meter, freshman sprinter Shauné Ingraham moved to No. 4 on the top-10 list with a time of 55.50 while Parker moved to No. 5 on the list, clocking in at 55.99.
Next week, NC State will compete at the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg, Virginia on Friday and Saturday as well as the JDL Last Chance in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
