The NC State track and field team flourished at the Bob Pollock Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina — boasting podium finishes, a plethora of personal bests and six athletes earning spots on the program’s All-Time Top 10 list.
Distance
Senior Patrick Tuohy emerged in his Wolfpack debut, winning the men’s 800m with a personal-best 1:49.17. Not only did his performance win first place, but it surpassed the fastest indoor 800m performance in program history. Sophomore Elliott McArthur made well in his own right, earning podium finishes in the mile and the 800m. His mile was a personal best time of 4:04.63.
Sophomore Kyra Durham and freshman Molly Canon both achieved personal bests in the women’s 800m, clocking 2:17.62 and 2:17.78, respectively.
Sprints
In the men’s 60m hurdles, senior Alexander Nunley posted a season-best time of 8.02, earning 12th. Meanwhile, graduate Jailen Hobbs and sophomore Kyron Parker set new season bests in the men’s 200m, finishing 20th and 23rd, respectively. Sophomore Elijah Dawes continued an excellent campaign in the men’s 400m, finishing fourth with a time of 47.54. His time not only placed him atop the field but also moved him into fourth place on NC State’s all-time indoor 400m list.
The Wolfpack women also acquired two additions to the program’s all-time top 10 list in the 400m, with sophomore Jordyn Parker running 56.56 to claim the No. 6 spot and freshman Shaune Ingraham clocking 56.81 to rank ninth. The women’s 4x400m relay posted a season-best time of 3:52.23, finishing 11th. The relay featured strong splits from Parker and Ingraham.
Field Events
NC State’s jumpers also excelled, with sophomore Tyson Adams securing second place in the men’s long jump with a personal-best leap of 24 feet and 8½ inches. Freshman Mariama Hunt also set a new personal best in the women’s long jump, reaching 18 feet and 10 inches en route to an 11th-place finish. In the men’s high jump, the Wolfpack claimed the two top spots, led by senior Charles McBride with a jump of seven feet and 2¼ inches — a personal best and the seventh-highest jump in school history — while junior Kyzaiah Stone finished second at six feet and 10¾ inches.
Senior Sydney Freeman had a standout performance in the women’s weight throw, placing fourth with a personal-best mark of 63 feet and four inches. Her throw moved her from ninth to sixth on NC State’s all-time list. Graduate teammate Makala Wright had a solid showing of her own, finishing ninth with a throw of 58 feet and one inch.
Next, NC State will compete next weekend at the Doc Hale VT Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia on Feb 7 and 8.
