While it was snowing in Raleigh, NC State women’s tennis kicked off its 2025 season in sunny Coral Gables, Florida at the Miami Spring Invite.
The Wolfpack was ousted earlier than expected in the NCAA Championship last season after falling to Stanford in the Super Regional Round of the tournament. After losing a cadre of seniors, some of its most talented players in program history — including the likes of then-seniors Amelia Rajecki and Abigail Rencheli — the red-and-white got back to work with a new-look lineup seeking more success in the postseason.
Day 1
NC State started its preseason play in Coral Gables with singles against the hosting Hurricanes. Sophomore Kristina Paskauskas, who saw limited playing time last season, got the nod at the number one singles spot. Paskauskas started 2025 with a ranked win over Miami’s No. 70 Raquel Gonzalez in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Paskauskas’ sister, No. 55 freshman Gabia Paskauskas, joined her sister in the win column with a two-set win on day one. Junior Anna Zyryanova defeated her Hurricane opponent 6-3, 7-6 (2) to kick off her campaign as one of the Pack’s most promising players.
Sophomore Gabriella Broadfoot claimed the final NC State singles win on day 1 with a three-set win over Miami’s Aely Arai in a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory. Sophomore Maddy Zampardo fell in three sets while freshman Mia Slama fell in two sets on court 2. Meanwhile, new sophomore Jasmine Conway beat Vanderbilit’s Jayden Jagolinzer in three sets in an independent match.
The Wolfpack’s doubles match against Vanderbilt on day 1 saw only one NC State victory from the No. 5 duo of Broadfoot and Zampardo, who beat Miami’s No. 11 duo 6-4 in a ranked win. Meanwhile, the No. 60 pair of Kristina Paskauskas and Conway were blanked 6-0 and Slama and Zyryanova fell 6-2.
Day 2
NC State squared off against Vanderbilt in singles on day 2 of the competition where the Wolfpack took four of the seven exhibition singles matches. Gabia Paskauskas picked up her second win of the event with a 6-2, 7-5 win over the Commodores’ Sophia Webster and Slama picked up her first in a 6-3, 6-2 win. Zyryanova captured her first win of the event in a 6-3, 6-3 win while Conway beat her second Commodore opponent in as many days 7-5, 6-3.
Three NC State players — those who occupied courts one, two and three — all fell in straight sets. Among them was Kristina Paskauskas, Zampardo, who lost to No. 26 Bridget Stammel and Broadfoot, who fell to No. 78 Valeria Ray.
The Pack played Oklahoma on day 2 of doubles, taking two of three courts against the Sooners. Broadfoot and Zampardo earned their second doubles win of the weekend via a 6-4 victory while Zyryanova and Slama got in the win column with a 6-4 win against their Oklahoma opponents. Finally, Kristina Paskauskas and Conway fell 6-4 in their second doubles loss of the event.
After exhibition play in the Sunshine State, NC State will officially start its season on Friday against Campbell before a Sunday afternoon matchup with Pepperdine in Raleigh. First serve against the Camels is set for 6 p.m. at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
