After the conclusion of Week 5 of the NFL season, there is a new array of former NC State football alumni who have made an impact throughout the league.
Here are this weeks top NFL Pack Pros.
Germaine Pratt, Cincinnati Bengals
Despite the Cincinnati’s struggling start, a consistent component of the team has been linebacker Germaine Pratt. Currently ranking eighth in the NFL with total tackles, he has proved himself a consistent threat as he has achieved nine or more total tackles in each of his last four games. Forcing and recovering a pair of fumbles, Pratt consistently finds himself at the top of the stat sheet.
In the Week 5 loss to the Ravens, Pratt churned out yet another solid performance. Tallying nine tackles, he also collected a hit on the quarterback. In a tight fourth quarter, both teams scored multiple touchdowns to knot the game at 38 to force overtime. On the first drive of the extra frame, the Bengals forced a Raven fumble, which Pratt hopped on. Setting his team up in decent field position, it ended up not being quite enough as the team missed the go-ahead 53-yard field goal and lost the game.
Payton Wilson, Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers led for the majority of its contest against the Cowboys on Sunday night as they held a slim 10-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Cowboys went and used the fourth quarter to catapult themselves to a 20-17 victory. Throughout the game, several members of the Pittsburgh defense turned in a solid performance. One such individual included rookie linebacker Payton Wilson. A nightmare for opposing offenses in college, Wilson has gradually asserted himself on the scene in the world of professional football.
This week against the Cowboys, Wilson set a season-high mark of nine total tackles which included five solo tackles. Bearing an innate sense of how to get to the football, he showcased how strong of a playmaker he is. This performance gave fans a glimpse into the possibilities of a linebacking core that contains Wilson alongside perennial Pro Bowler TJ Watt.
AJ Cole, Las Vegas Raiders
So far this season, the AFC has boasted several teams who look to be possible playoff contenders. This comes with several divisions in which there is little separation between multiple teams. As a result, the wild card standings within the conference are tight with many teams vying for the three available spots. This week, the Las Vegas Raiders were dealt a crushing blow to their hopes of positioning themselves among this group. After a 34-18 loss to the Denver Broncos, the team now sits at 2-3. After scoring ten points in the first quarter, the Raider offense remained quiet for most of the remainder of the game. Despite a rough time for the offense, punter AJ Cole once again got the opportunity to display his skills.
Tallying a total of five punts, tying his season high in a single game, Cole did his best to help give the opposing offense as little to work with in regards to field position. Averaging 53.4 yards per kick, he saw his best of the day come on a 61-yard boot in the second quarter which pinned the Broncos on their own seven-yard line. Later in the game, he recorded another punt that was also put within the Broncos’ 20-yard line.
