NC State cross country traveled to Spartanburg, South Carolina to compete in the NCAA Regionals on Friday, Nov. 10. The Wolfpack women brought home their seventh-consecutive title and senior Katelyn Tuohy took first overall.
The NC State women totaled 52 points for a first-place finish, 30 points above second-place Furman. The Wolfpack clocked an average time of 20:00.14 in the women’s 6k race. Five red-and-white women earned All-Region status for placing in the top 25 places at the regional level.
Tuohy led the field, finishing 11 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher with a time of 19:29.8. Senior Sam Bush took sixth place with a time of 19:56.0. Up next for the Pack was sophomore Grace Hartman, who clocked in at 19:58.6 for an eighth-place finish. Senior Gionna Quarzo, who took 12th, and senior Jenna Schulz, who placed 25th, were the last two NC State athletes to earn All-Region status. Redshirt senior Mariah Howlett earned 27th place.
The women’s squad now looks towards the NCAA National Championship, where it hopes to win a third-straight national title.
The NC State men finished in third for the day with 106 points and an average time of 29:37.66 in the men’s 10k race. The squad had four members earn All-Region status.
Graduate student Hannes Burger led the Pack, taking 12th place with a time of 29:23.3. Senior Brett Gardner finished in 15th with a time of 29:29.4. Graduate student Toby Gualter crossed the finish line next, capturing 21st place with a time of 29:36.3. Rounding out NC State’s All-Region runners was senior Dan McGoey, who took 23rd with a time of 29:37.7.
Seniors Zach Hughes, Ian Harrison and Jake Toomey finished 35th, 67th and 81st for the red-and-white, respectively.
While the men’s team is done for the season, the women’s team will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia for the National Championship on Saturday, Nov. 18.
