NC State men’s golf tied for sixth place in the Blessings Collegiate Invitational this week in Fayetteville, Arizona. The tournament was originally supposed to be three rounds, but play was cut short before the end of the third round due to bad weather.
Redshirt junior Nick Mathews finished the tournament tied for 10th place at 2-over par. Mathews was the only member of the Pack who scored 1-under par in a round. His first round proved a little tricky; even a streak of four birdies couldn’t prevent Mathews from scoring 3-over par. In his second round, he was able to finish 1-under par.
Next up for the Wolfpack was graduate student Spencer Oxendine, who tied for 21st place at 3-over par. Even with two double bogies in the first round, Oxendine came in at even par. However, the bogies got to him in the second round and put him at 4-over par.
Sophomore Joey Lenane tied for 27th place at 6-over par. Lenane recorded three double-bogies in the first two rounds but was able to offset that with eight birdies. He ended up at 3-over par in round one and 2-over par in round two.
Coming in next for the Pack was senior Ethan Choi, who tied for 39th place at 10-over par. He had a solid first round, recording mostly even pars and five bogies and scoring 5-over par. Choi had a rough start to the second round but came out 2-over par.
Junior Michael Vick placed 48th at 18-over par. Vick struggled all around and only recorded two birdies in the 40 holes played. He recorded 13-over par in round one and 6-over par in round two.
The Wolfpack will play its final fall tournament Monday, Oct. 9 and Tuesday, Oct. 10, when it travels to Wilmington to compete in the Williams Cup.
