NC State Athletics’ highlights of the week included NC State women’s soccer’s first win since August and football coming out on top against Marshall.
Men’s golf finishes tied for sixth
NC State men’s golf tied for sixth in the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Arizona. The tournament was cut short due to bad weather, so scores were only tabulated for two out of the three rounds. Redshirt junior Nick Mathews finished on top for the Pack, tying for tenth place at 2-over par.

Women’s soccer splits matches
The Pack women’s soccer squad traveled to Virginia Tech this week, where it fell 4-1. Senior forward Alexis Strickland scored the Wolfpack’s only goal in the 20th minute to tie up the match at 1-1. However, the Hokies were able to put three goals past junior goalkeeper Olivia Pratapas in 15 minutes during the second half, shutting the Pack down offensively.
After yet another loss, the Pack was able to overcome Virginia 2-1 this week for its first win in almost two months. Senior forward Jameese Joseph and junior midfielder Annika Wohner scored the early goals for the Pack in the first 12 minutes of the game. The Cavs tried to come back in the second half after an early lead for the Wolfpack, but NC State pulled off the win.

Men’s soccer falls to Wake Forest
No. 6 Wake Forest came out on top 3-0 against the Pack’s men’s soccer team, which marked NC State’s fourth straight ACC loss this season. While the Wolfpack has been successful at home so far this season, a ranked Wake Forest team came in and put on a show at Dail Soccer Stadium. The Demon Deacons tired out the red-and-white’s defense early on, scoring in the 24th minute, and kept pounding through the 90 minutes of play.

Brizard and Bryant record career highs against Miami and FSU
NC State volleyball played two five-set matches this past week and fell to both opponents. Miami was an even match; NC State came out ready to fight and had many scoring runs throughout the match that pulled the team ahead. The two teams traded sets before the Hurricanes eventually took the match. The Pack exhibited its aggressive offense once again, recording 65 kills.
Sophomore outside hitters Ava Brizard and Courtney Bryant set career-highs for kills in both games. Brizard set her record at 19 against Miami and set it again with a staggering 25 kills against the Seminoles. The Pack was able to take the first and third sets against FSU but was unable to capitalize on its early energy to follow through with a win.

Football leans on Morris for a victory at home
Football recorded a spectacular offensive performance on Saturday against Marshall. Sophomore quarterback MJ Morris led the offense with 265 passing yards and four passing touchdowns, both career highs for Morris. With an additional two touchdowns, the Pack offense put up 48 points.
This game was a battle of the offenses, with Marshall keeping pace with an aggressive approach. Freshman wide receiver Kevin Concepcion had a stellar day as well and was the primary connection for Morris.
