The NC State men’s golf team traveled to Durham for the Rod Myers Invitational, its second tournament of the fall season. The Pack finished third overall in a field of twelve teams off of a stellar performance on par fives.
Redshirt junior Nick Mathews finished highest overall for the Pack, tying for sixth place with a score of 3-under par overall. After securing a top spot in the first rounds with under-par finishes, Mathews struggled in the third round with a two over par finish. He pulled off two eagles in the tournament, both on par fives.
Junior Michael Vick tied for 11th place with a final score of 1-under par. Vick finished day one at even-par after the first two rounds and showed an up-and-down performance in round three.
Graduate student Spencer Oxendine finished the tournament with a score of one over par to tie for 14th place. He scored 1-over par in the first two rounds and scored one under par in the final round. Oxendine struggled more on par fours, with seven of his 11 bogeys coming on those holes.
Sophomore Joey Lenane and junior Cade McLaughlin rounded out the Pack’s lineup, finishing 47th and 56th overall, respectively. Both had one triple bogey and Lenane had an additional quadruple bogey. With that, Lenane was able to get an eagle for the Wolfpack in the first round.
Senior Ethan Choi and graduate student Carter Graf both competed individually. Choi showed out and tied for 21st, while Graf finished in 65th place.
The red-and-white will travel to Fayetteville, Arizona for the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 2 and 3.
