NC State Athletics recently announced a number of increased security measures at Carter-Finley Stadium for the remaining two home football games this season. Although federal agencies stated there are no known threats to collegiate stadiums, the university feels it is necessary to take these steps as a precaution, in light of recent world events.
The changes include increased law enforcement presence both within the stadium and in the parking lots and surrounding areas. Other covert security measures have been taken that have not been revealed.
“NC State appreciates the cooperation and understanding of all fans related to all security measures,” NC State Athletics stated via email. “The university works closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement and athletics personnel to provide a safe environment for everyone who attends athletics events.”
At this time, the university has not stated that these changes will apply to other sporting events on campus beyond the final two football games Saturday Nov. 21 and Saturday Nov. 28.
In addition to increased law enforcement, the following changes will be made, according to an NC State Athletics email:
• All Carter-Finley Stadium gates will now open 2 hours prior to kickoff (up from 90 minutes) to allow additional time for entry.
• Fans are asked to arrive at stadium gates at least 30 minutes earlier than normal to accommodate increased security screening.
• Fans should be prepared for enhanced checks of persons and belongings, including opening coats/outerwear and emptying pockets.
• Fans are strongly encouraged not to bring bags into Carter-Finley Stadium. If a bag is essential, a clear plastic bag is recommended. No bag can exceed 14″ x 14″ and backpacks remain prohibited, in accordance with existing stadium guidelines. All bags are subject to search.
Carter-Finley Stadium averages more than 54,000 fans and spectators per game, so longer wait times should be expected.
