Week nine in the NFL saw a number of former Wolfpackers take the field for teams across the league. Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson and kicker Stephen Hauschka had the week off, but former Pack signal caller Philip Rivers was active Monday night, while Jerricho Cotchery helped the Panthers reach 8-0 with a huge win.
Jerricho Cotchery
The Panthers wide receiver made three catches in Sunday’s 37-29 win against the Green Bay Packers. He recorded a total of 82 receiving yards with his longest catch coming on a 52-yard pass from quarterback Cam Newton.
David Amerson
Amerson recorded eight total solo tackles in Sunday’s games between the Oakland Raiders and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had the third most tackles of anyone in the game, but the Raiders ultimately fell 38-35 in Pittsburgh.
Philip Rivers
The San Diego quarterback threw for a total of 280 yards and one touchdown during Monday night’s game against Chicago. This game marked the first game in six that Rivers hasn’t thrown 300 yards. The Chargers are now on a five-game losing streak, their longest since losing six straight in 2011. Rivers’ only touchdown pass came in the first quarter on a 14-yard pass to Danny Woodhead, giving the chargers a quick 7-0 lead. The Chargers lost a 13-point lead and lost the game 22-19.
J.R. Sweezy
The Seahawks had a bye week this week, but now is a good time to take a quick look at what Sweezy has done for his team this season. Sweezy is a right guard for former Wolfpack quarterback Russell Wilson, and he has been a crucial part of the four wins the Seahawks have earned this season. The Seahawks’ offensive line has seen improvement this season, and in their week eight 13-12 win against the Dallas Cowboys, Sweezy and the rest of the offensive line did not allow a sack for the first time since the Super Bowl two seasons ago.
