Senior running back Shadrach Thornton was arrested Tuesday night for his role in a scooter accident that left a pedestrian injured.
According to Raleigh Police, Thornton was driving a scooter and hit Jimmie Woodard at the intersection of Avent Ferry Road and Western Boulevard around 9:15 p.m. last night. Woodard did not sustain any serious injuries.
Police found Thornton in his apartment at College Inn, near the scene of the incident. He was charged with failure to stop and render aid and failure to provide information. Thornton paid a $500 bond and was released just after midnight.
Thornton, who was suspended for the first two games of the 2015 season for violation of team rules, rushed for 203 yards and three touchdowns in the last two games. Thornton has had his fair share of trouble with the law in the past.
In the summer of 2013, he was charged with assaulting a female after witnesses said that he and his girlfriend engaged in a physical altercation in D.H. Hill Library. Thornton was suspended for one game and given a deferred prosecution ruling for his actions.
Thornton has also been cited twice for possession of marijuana in December 2013 and March 2014. However, each charge was voluntarily dismissed.
The NC State football team has not yet announced any disciplinary actions it might take in regards to this incident.
