As if spontaneously, another school year is upon us, and what would a new school year be without Wolfpack Welcome Week?
This first week is prime time for new and returning students alike to familiarize themselves with life on campus.
The two biggest Wolfpack Welcome Week events, the Target run and RecFest, drew lots of chaos, waiting and excitement.
The free goodies attracted the crowds. Shots of Muscle Core protein shakes, Sammy’s chicken fingers and UREC T-shirts were among the highlights of freebies at RecFest. Insomnia cookies were the biggest hit at Target for the midnight shoppers.
Hundreds of students waited patiently at the bus stop to pile into the Wolfline Buses bound for Target. NC State’s newest students appeared overwhelmed by the commotion and confusion at the Target run, including Brooke Caldwell, a freshman studying political science.
“The bus ride here was almost deadly,” Caldwell said.
Upon arrival at the Target run, UAB organization members swiped their ID cards and were free to roam around the shopping center, purchasing everything from room décor and groceries to clothing and school supplies.
Gates for RecFest opened at 6:30 p.m., but some students began waiting in line an hour in advance. As soon as gates opened, masses of sweaty students ran to enjoy the blow-up obstacle courses, learn more about the dozens of club sports such as bass fishing and sailing club and, of course, grab as many free things as possible.
