Head coach Kellie Harper had a down year in her third season in Raleigh. The Pack finished with a sub-par 19-16 record while finishing 9th in the ACC with a 5-11 record. Both marks were well below the expectations the Wolfpack set for itself. State’s Achilles heel was its inability to stop anyone on the defensive end, finishing tenth in scoring defense and ninth in scoring margin in the ACC. Harper’s squad also had a tendency of allowing games to slip away, prime examples being against Miami where it failed to finish off a 20-point second half comeback and also being outscored by Georgia Tech by seven in overtime.
Despite less-than-stellar success in the win/loss column there were some positive notes for State during the 2011-2012 season. The Pack reached the ACC Tournament semifinals after an improbable win against Duke in the quarterfinals. Junior guard Marissa Kastanek earned an All-ACC Honorable Mention for her performance throughout the regular season and gathered a first team All-ACC Tournament team nod. Senior forward Bonae Holston also finished in the top-5 in rebounds in the ACC. Sophomore center Kody Burke also held down the fort inside. Burke averaged 1.5 blocks per game, the fourth best mark in the conference.
