The N.C. State men’s wrestling team lost both matchups against Virginia and Virginia Tech respectively at Reynolds Coliseum on Sunday.
Virginia (4-1, 1-1 ACC), who ranked No. 21 in the nation coming into Raleigh, dominated the Pack (3-4, 0-2 ACC) 33-12 to hand them their second consecutive loss following last week’s loss against Bloomsburg. Despite the valiant efforts of redshirt senior No. 13 Darius Little and sophomore Matt Nereim , who won their encounters via pin falls, the Pack lost eight out of the ten bouts in a landslide victory for the Cavaliers. The Pack, however, looked like a different team altogether going in against No. 17 Virginia Tech (4-2, 2-1 ACC) but failed to capitalize on their good start, which saw them lead 12-8 at the half time following wins by freshman No. 20 Coltin Fought, Little and a pin by redshirt senior Colton Palmer.
The second half proved to be unkind to the Pack as they won just one out the five bouts, falling to the Hokies 24-15.
Despite the team’s debacle over the weekend, Little won fight No.88 and No. 89 in his career to move up to tie for the sixth position in all time N.C. State history.
The Pack takes on American University on Friday, Jan. 20 Washington D.C.
