As N.C . State students start a new semester, television networks are rolling out new shows to start off the year. The midseason television lineup gives networks the chance to have a fresh start, while also giving viewers the opportunity to enjoy new shows. Here are some midseason shows networks have brought together for the beginning of the New Year.
Are You There, Chelsea?
Network: NBC
Premiere: Jan. 11
This new sitcom is based on the semi-autobiographical book by comedienne Chelsea Handler. It stars Handler, as “Sloane”, and Laura Prepon (That 70’s Show) as Chelsea. The show showcases the events of Chelsea’s life during her twenties as portrayed in her popular book Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea.
Napoleon Dynamite
Network: Fox
Premiere: Jan. 15
The original Napoleon himself, Jon Heder , lends his voice to this animated reprise of the popular 2004 film. The show features the adventures of Napoleon and his friends as they take on rural Idaho. The rest of the original cast returns to voice their characters as well.
GCB
Network: ABC
Premiere: March 4
This show stars Leslie Bibb as Amanda Vaughn, a divorced mother of two who returns to her hometown of Dallas for a new beginning. When she gets there, she quickly realizes the city offers more than she expected: gossiping housewives, plastic surgery and fraud. The program is based on the book Good Christian Bitches by Kim Gatlin .
Comic Book Men
Network: AMC
Premiere: Feb. 12
This unscripted six-part series features the culture of comic books and their collectors. The show centers on the New Jersey comic shop owned by Kevin Smith (executive producer of Chasing Amy, Dogma), following the staff and the comic obsession of their customers. As the team buys and sells treasures of the comic world, their podcast features the stories of their most valuable finds.
Luck
Network: HBO
Premiere: Jan. 29
This drama features the corruption, high-stakes gambling and the all-or-nothing business deals involved with horseracing . It stars Dustin Hoffman as an ex-convict thrown into the horseracing world, when he is forced to become a horse-owner as a cover-up for his gambling boss.
House of Lies
Network: Showtime
Premiere: Jan. 8
This comedy stars a group of management consultants at a consulting firm in Los Angeles, who will do anything to make business deals and, more importantly, money. The show features the adventures of a consulting firm as they take on projects all over the world. It stars Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell.
The Finder
Network: Fox
Premiere: Jan. 12
This spin-off of the popular TV show Bones features Walter Sherman (played by Geoff Stults ), a retired military officer who has the ability to find anything and anyone. Stults and his co-star, Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile), travel the Florida Keys as they are hired to find the things and people no one else can.
