Racist message responses
The racist message displayed in this photo is an example of the messages spray-painted across the Free Expression Tunnel Wednesday, targeting President-elect Barack Obama, America’s first black president.
After a historic election, students and faculty were greeted with this at the tunnel’s entrance, and after Campus Police was notified, Facilities workers painted the tunnel white to cover up the offensive messages.
Since then, student leaders have held two rallies to discuss the subject and the Chancellor has posted a response on the University’s Web site.
