A student was hospitalized Sunday night after bursting through the window of an exit door in Tucker Hall, breaking the glass that then cut his torso and arms, according to Campus Police Lt. Martin Moody.
Students inside the dorm identified the injured student as David Hoffman, a freshman in computer engineering, and Moody said the injuries were not life threatening.
Moody said Hoffman was running barefoot through a hallway, anticipating to exit out the door, but he did not properly open the door. He then shattered the window in the upper half of the door with his chest and arm, with broken glass cutting his torso.
After the incident, Hoffman’s friends called 911, and EMS arrived at 11:40 p.m., with police following at about midnight, Moody said.
A fire marshall was on site to clean up the glass and blood outside the broken door, and at about 12:40 a.m., Moody said Facilities would arrive soon to fix the window.
Those who saw the incident traveled with him to WakeMed, according to Justin Watkins, a sophomore in environmental design in architecture.
