Students can vote for the winner of Leader of the Pack, a $1,000 scholarship to honor those committed to service and excellence on campus, today and Tuesday.

Kim Orr, junior in biology
What service activities have you taken part in and what leadership positions have you held while at the University?
President of Sigma Alpha Omega, Walk for Hope in Relay for Life, Pre-Health Club Service Events, Resident Advisor in Bowen Hall, Former member of NCSU All-Girl Cheerleading, Ovarian Cancer Awareness Walk, Prevent Blindness North Carolina, Service N.C. State.
What qualifies you to earn this scholarship?
I just love N.C. State, I have always loved N.C. State, and I have a desire to inspire others to be the best that they can be and leave it in the best way possible. I strive to always be there for my friends and my family and my residents in any way that I can.
John York, junior in textile technology
What service activities have you taken part in and what leadership positions have you held while at the University?
Resident mentor for the First Year College, assistant coordinator for SAC, Tota desk in central campus, African American Symposium Council, Textile Entrepreneurs Club founding member, Tompkins Textile Student Council, Student Centers Board of Directors rep for African American Culture Centers, Chancellor’s Aide, Former university ambassador, Textiles Ambassador, Peer Mentor.
What makes you qualified to earn this scholarship?
I think that the scholarship, in a way, helps show that my work is paying off. There are a lot of people on N.C. State’s campus that would qualify for the scholarship but you’ve gotta take the time.
The leadership and achievements that I have at N.C. State can help assist in gaining the scholarship. I think that’s a big part, just taking advantage of the opportunity. $1000 isn’t bad at all.
Jezzette Rivera, junior in criminiology
What service activities have you taken part in and what leadership positions have you held while at the University?
President of Mi Familia, Service Raleigh co-chair last year, Resident Advisor for two years, University Scholars Program, Gamma Beta PHi project chair.
What makes you qualified to earn this scholarship?
I’ve been really active on campus since my freshman year and I’ve made a commitment to service specifically on N.C. State’s campus, as well as bringing awareness to the Latino community.
Anthony Kulukulualani, senior in biology
What service activities have you taken part in and what leadership positions have you held while at the University?
First co-president of Minority Association of PreMedical Students, supplemental instruction (SI) leader, resident advisor, peer mentor, African American Symposium counselor, Service N.C. State, tutor.
What makes you qualified to earn this scholarship?
I embody the characteristics that they’re looking for in Leader of the Pack. I’ve contributed to the academic and leadership community here.
Elise Bullard, sophomore psychology
What service activities have you taken part in and what leadership positions have you held while at the University?
Team captain for the top-fundraising Relay for Life team, honors village fellow, co-chair for Community Outreach Committee, community service and work study tutor at Centennial Middle School, Bagwell Hall representative, Campus Crusade.
What makes you qualified to earn this scholarship?
I have been very involved in my first year and this year at N.C. State. Getting an early start on leadership and service is very important.
My time is not running thin at N.C. State. I am a sophomore and have new ideas about leadership. I’ll be able to make those ideas into reality.
By me being named as Leader of the Pack, it would make Leader of the Pack something that freshman could aspire to and sophomores can apply for because it will be seen as something that’s attainable.
Matt Avery, senior textile engineering
What service activities have you taken part in and what leadership positions have you held while at the University?
Mentoring at Dilliard Drive Elementary School, Raleigh Boys and Girls Club Haunted House, Habitat for Humanity, Service Raleigh, North Carolina Food Bank, Caroling at Raleigh Rehabilitation Center, College of Textiles freshman mentor, Circle K International, head of Member Metention Committee, Kappa Tau Beta leadership fraternity, Sigma Tau Sigma, honors fraternity.
What makes you qualified to earn this scholarship?
Ever since being a student here at N.C. state, I thought it was very important to be involved both on campus and in the community. I enjoy helping out other people, and i think it’s very important that others do that as well. As a leader I like to be one that encourages those who dedicate their lives to service and helping out others.
