You thought you had it made, didn’t you? Thought you had finally found a way to get to class on a regular basis without walking or risking the city buses — you thought you’d be OK parking in the Centennial park-and-ride for a while? Sorry.
Time to start that “where can I park this heap so I’m not late” quest again because Transportation is snatching away that last free on-campus parking lot and slapping down another pay lot in its place.
Time to get back to those formulas for how many parking tickets you can rack up before they equal the price of one of these $200+ parking permits.
Time to fight for that sketchy space in Mission Valley next to the dumpster the tow-truck might not notice.
Time, in fact, to invest in a good solid piece of corrugated cardboard to leave next to your fender when you finally park illegally each day to get to class on time — that way the boot won’t scratch your rims.
Apparently, it’s time to make this free park-and-ride, used by Main and Centennial Campus students and staff, another permit lot.
In addition to being forced to now scour the Raleigh area for two white lines to slide the ride into, parking permit costs are on the rise again for the upcoming academic year.
It’s time, apparently, to gouge students and staff one more time for the freedom of just getting to campus.
It’s not as if Transportation is opening a replacement free lot to make up for robbing us of our park-and-ride lot.
According to Transportation, the intentions are there to create another lot of this type, there’s just no plan for actual implementation yet.
So fellow students, perhaps if you have a potential solution to the never-ending parking crisis on campus, go ahead and contact Transportation. Surely, they’d love to hear your suggestions.
