The men’s tennis team took two out of three doubles matches against No. 66 Brown before splitting six singles matches en route to a 4-3 victory on Wednesday at the Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium.
Seniors Val Banada and Will Shaw, the No. 76 doubles combo in the country, and junior William Noblitt and sophomore Ben Zink provided the doubles wins.
Meanwhile, No. 43 Nick Cavaday, N.C. State’s top seed, defeated Luke Tedaldi in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, in singles. Noblitt and Shaw, the Wolfpack’s No. 4 and No. 6 seeds respectively, also won their singles matches in straight sets.
With seven regular contests remaining, the team is two wins short of tying the school record of 19 victories — achieved in both 1978 and 1979.
Despite a 17-5 overall record and four wins over nonconference opponents, State will be in search of its first ACC win at 2:30 p.m. on Friday when it hosts Boston College.
