The women’s golf team finished in sixth place at ACC Women’s Golf Championship at the par-72 Pinehurst No. 8 Sunday afternoon.
The Wolfpack finished with an overall combined score of 56-over-par, two shots behind Florida State, three shots behind Maryland and six shots behind Wake Forest.
Pack junior Nancy Mountcastle shot 73 in the final round to finish in third place, scoring 6-over-par for the tournament. On Friday, Mountcastle birdied four of the last five holes to pull herself into the hunt at 1-over. After shooting 3-over-par on Saturday, Mountcastle started tied for fourth place heading into the final round. Mountcastle made three birdies in the final round, but three bogeys on the back nine, including a double bogey on the 14th, left her alone in third place.
Despite being tied for ninth heading into the final day, Pack sophomore Stephanie Derrey shot 81 and finished tied for 22nd, shooting 17-over-par. Pack senior Lorraine Ballerano, playing in her final ACC tournament, shot 18-over-par to finish tied for 24th.
Duke ended up winning the tournament with a combined score of 21-over-par. The Blue Devils earned their conference record 11th straight ACC tournament title. Virginia finished in second, scoring 40-over-par.
