We understand there are other things going on around campus that are more deserving of this space, but they are not what people are talking about the most. The hot topic that comes off everyone’s chapped lips is the dramatic changes in the weather day to day.
We aren’t upset with the fact it has been in the 70s this winter and it will be close to 74 degrees this Thursday.
We really don’t mind that some days it will “snow.”
What we are really upset about is the inability to plan clothes that will allow us to be comfortable from day to day. And it’s not just us. We have seen you, “guy wearing shorts when it is 40 degrees outside,” and “girl in sherpa boots when it is 75 degrees.” We know you are uncomfortable. We all are.
It’s time to show this weather we mean business. We need to take it to the streets to combat this crazy weather. We have some ideas about how we can show weather we are unhappy with its performance.
1. We should treat weather as if it is an employee who is consistently tardy and not producing the highest quality work. It is time to fire weather. Weather should be canned because of its inconsistency to perform at the level we desire. It is time to tell weather to clean out its desk, take home its mug with its kids on it (hail, rain and wind) and remove itself from the office football pool. No more office birthday cake for you, weather.
2. We should ignore weather like a boyfriend/girlfriend who was caught flirting with someone else. The silent treatment always works the best. When weather blows wind or rains just pretend you don’t even hear or notice it. After weather has been in the doghouse for a while, it’ll get the hint it is time to start being true to us.
3. We should start seeing someone else. Soil and geology is free now. We should spend the time we would spend with weather and invest that into a relationship that is consistent. Dirt and rocks have never let us down before, and it is time we stop treating them like the “best friend” we talk about problems with weather to. Maybe we should realize there could be something special there.
Whatever we decide, it is time to let weather know we are just not happy and we are ready to wear flip-flops or snow boots as long as it lets us know what it wants.
