Our View: Proposing resolutions that make light of one student senator’s illegitimate child is a waste of time, resources and is quite insensitive to students working hard to raise children.
A creative, funny lead to this edit is not necessary. Let’s just start with the actual resolution on first reading to the Student Senate on Wednesday night.
“A resolution to be entitled an act to show appreciation towards Scott Stephenson for showing people that Orthotricyclin does have a 0.1% failure rate.”
(Use Bill Lumberg voice for the next few sentences.)
“Yeah.”
“Umm, could you no longer waste time and resources to propose and pass resolutions that are, how do we put this delicately, pointless?”
“That’d be greatttttt.”
Seriously, joking about an illegitimate child while you should be discussing loftier topics would be a great idea.

Tuition and fees are rising. Heard about that?
We are in desperate need of need-based scholarships. That sounds like something important, doesn’t it?
We’ll be fair. The Student Senate does talk about things like fees and tuition, but this resolution is the straw that broke the camel’s back concerning Student Senate’s consistent waste of student fees.
For everyone that doesn’t know, student senators get paid by fees in your tuition and this is what they are doing with your money.
Let’s talk a little about the noble student senator who proposed this resolution — Adam Whitehouse.
On the Student Government Web site, Mr. Whitehouse’s profile reads one of his key issues is “Keeping Senate Issues focused on Students.”
(Bill Lumberg voice again.)
“Adam, what’s happening?”
“We’re going to need for you to keep with your profile and not waste resources like paper and time with frivolous inside jokes.”
“So, if you could do that it’d be great”
Let’s get to the other side of the issue at hand.
Birth control and pre-marital sex are issues a lot of students, faculty and staff have very strong feelings about. Lest you want particular groups of students to be alienated by their elected representatives, we suggest you don’t propose things that are trivial and that could so easily upset people.
Let’s get it together Student Senate. Stop all the fighting, the bureaucracy and the inappropriate use of time and get some work done to make this a better campus for everyone.
