With each sunrise comes the hope that a new day will be better than the last.
Or something like that, but maybe it doesn’t quite fit to the hiring of a new women’s volleyball coach.
We are very hopeful that Stubbs will bring some success to a team that unfortunately has become synonymous with loss.
We stand by our team even though they have come in last place the last six seasons in the ACC.
We think Stubbs, who has proven herself as a coach on the University of Arizona team, will lead our women to victory in the coming season. Or else we should go in another direction.
We are confident she will be our Luke Skywalker in Star Wars IV: The New Hope and that her Darth Vader will be the losing record she is forced to deal with.
And we’re not sure who Yoda will be, but this is just a metaphor, not one of those crazy extended metaphors.
Unfortunately, we at N.C. State seem to have a real issue with letting people go when their performance is not up to par — hence Mary Byrne’s tenure even though perhaps she should have been given her walking papers awhile ago.
We’re sorry but two wins in 84 games during her career as head coach is pathetic at best and embarrassing to athletics as a whole.
Maybe it’s time N.C. State put people, as Stephen Colbert puts it, “on notice.”
If Coach Stubbs does not turn the team around then we shouldn’t allow her to coach the team anymore. That goes for other coaches as well — you know who you are.
But, as we said earlier, we are hopeful.
We welcome Stubbs to our community and believe that she will be a great addition to our extended family in red and white.
We also believe it is about time that N.C. State got in line with the rest of the civilized world and hired a Black person as a head coach. It seems like we are really behind the times, after all it is 2006.
So here we go volleyball team hike up your knee pads, raise your nets and inflate your balls! Its a new season for you to show just how talented you are.
Even though we are excited about having a new coach for your team we hope you are ecstatic and refreshed. Now is your chance to make a name for yourself in the ACC and the NCAA.
