Wolfpack fans may find themselves making more frequent trips to the Crabtree Valley Mall this holiday season, now that The Go Pack Store is open for business.
They will also be able to catch Coach Sidney Lowe’s weekly radio show live from the mall’s food court, beginning in late November.
The Go Pack Store is the official store of N.C. State athletics and carries a variety of Wolfpack clothing and accessories as well as NCSU artwork, books, gifts and more. It opened Friday, Nov. 10 and is located above the mall’s center court next to Williams-Sonoma.
“With the opening of the Go Pack Store, N.C. State has become the first college team in the Triangle to have a major retail outlet that exclusively features its products in a major mall,” said Brian Asbill, general manager of Wolfpack Sports Marketing.
WSM is the corporate sales agent for the N.C. State Athletics Department, and is in charge of managing the Go Pack Store, according to Asbill.
According to Randy Burkes, junior in computer engineering, the store is a “nice,” though small, addition to the mall.
“It was pretty small, so the selection was limited, but it had reasonable prices and will make State gear more accessible to fans that can’t make it out to the bookstore,” Burkes said.
According to Asbill, the store welcomes all input from shoppers.
“We will be getting merchandise shipments weekly, and what we order will depend on the feedback we get from customers,” he said.
According to gopack.com, Wolfpack supporters will get 10 percent off purchases of $50 or more when they bring in Wolfpack Club cards, men’s basketball or football ticket stubs, Alumni Association cards, or a valid faculty, staff or student id.
“We aren’t trying to compete with, or match, the campus bookstore,” Asbill said. “We opened this store to generate corporate sponsorship for Coach Lowe’s radio show.”
The Sidney Lowe Radio Show will make its debut live from the Crabtree Valley Mall Food Court from 8 – 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, according to gopack.com.
Asbill said the show will return to its normal Monday time slot the following week, and continue through the end of basketball season.
“We want to encourage all students to join us at Crabtree Valley Mall in the food court as part of our live audience,” said Asbill. “It’s a great chance to catch up on shopping, enjoy a meal at one of the 19 different food court vendors and spend an hour catching up with Coach Lowe and the Wolfpack basketball team.”
Lowe is not the only head coach Pack fans can expect to see at the mall this season. According to gopack.com, there will be chances to meet women’s volleyball coach Charita Stubs, men’s tennis coach Jon Choboy and women’s basketball coach Kay Yow among others during scheduled appearances at the Go Pack Store.
Mr. Wuf, members of the Wolfpack Sports Network team and Tim Peeler, author of “Legends of N.C. State Basketball,” will also visit the store, according to Asbill.
“We have tried to work it out with Campus Athletics so that Monday through Thursday there will be something going on here each evening,” Asbill said.
Asbill said the store is expected to stay open through late January, as a trial to gauge market support.
“Here we have a very far reach and fantastic visibility,” he said. “We hope that Pack fans will come out and support the store because we would like to make it a full-time operation.”
