Computer technician Zeynep Akyil of Scholarships and Financial aid removed a questionable job posting, complete with porn links, Monday morning. The posting has been on the NCSU Student Job Opportunities Web site since Oct. 8.
The link posted on the Web site directed interested parties to a site entitled adult-reviewer.com. This site contained links to various porn sites, ranging in everything from teen to celebrity to fetish porn.
Julie Rice Mallette, associate vice provost and director of Scholarships and Financial Aid, said a student brought the job posting to her attention over the weekend. The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid maintains the Web site.
“I don’t even know when it was posted or how long it was out there,” she said. “But we pulled it off immediately.”
According to Mallette, this isn’t the first time something of questionable nature has been submitted to the Web site.
“We do have a disclaimer on the Web site because we can’t always tell, in reviewing the job postings, whether these are legitimate jobs or not,” she said.
Mallette said the Web site was designed to be a mostly self-serving site for employers and students. While Aykil does screen the postings, Mallette said the amount of text coming through is massive, and it is often hard to catch everything.
Aykil said this particular posting must have slipped through the screening process.
According to Mallette, that is the reason the office of Scholarships and Financial Aid suggests students personally screen jobs they are interested in before pursuing them.
“We can’t possibly know what these employers have in mind,” Mallette said.
Repeated attempts to call and e-mail the contact listed on the job posting Monday evening were unsuccesful.
