Campus Police responded to a call regarding an explosion outside Lee Hall Wednesday night around 11:20 p.m.
According to Officer Jason Dye of Campus Police, the source of the disturbance was a single CO2 cartridge. Telecommunicator Brenda Coman said the cartridge was about as big around as a quarter and 3 to 4 inches long.
Dye said Campus Police isn’t sure who set off the cartridge or what actions Campus Police will take against the offender.
According to Officer Dye, a single cartridge can do “quite a bit of damage” if it is in an enclosed area, such as a mailbox. However, there was no damage in this case since the cartridge was set off in the middle of Lee Field.
Freshman in engineering Brad Longo, a resident of Sullivan Hall, said he was about to start his homework when he heard the explosion.
“It must have been really close to my room, ” he said. “I felt the vibration because I was leaning against [my window].”
Jake Apple, freshman in engineering and resident of Lee Hall, said he and his friends “basically got a posse together” and went outside to investigate the noise. They found Campus Police on Lee Field, and were told to leave the scene.
According to Coman, investigation is still ongoing.
