Students had an opportunity to experience a wide variety of clubs and organizations Friday when the Student Organization Resource Center hosted its annual Organization Fair in the Brickyard.
Approximately 400 student organizations registered with the office to participate in the fair, the second of two events organized by the SORC to inform students about what organizations are available for them to join.
Students said the fair helped them see what organizations were available for them to join on campus.
“I’ve been to so many tables,” Emily Westmoreland, a freshman in biochemistry, said. “I’ve seen way more organizations than I ever would without it. Some of these I’ve never even heard of.”
The fair featured tables manned by representatives from academic clubs, service groups, club sports teams and Greek-Life organizations. Some students said they came to the fair looking to find more about organizations they were interested in, but found others they were interested in as well.
“I was primarily interested in Spanish Club and Wolfpack Motorsports,” George Hovey, a senior in mechanical engineering, said. “The fair is a really good way to find out what organizations are available on campus. Sometimes it’s hard to reach group [representatives] on campus. It’s nice to have a day when you can come out and talk to people.”
While the location of the fair brought in some curious students, others expressed concern that the event was not advertised heavily enough.
“I had no clue this was going on,” Westmoreland said. “I was drawn to the big group of people, tables and free stuff.”
According to the SORC, students attending the fair had the opportunity to win prizes. Some students came to the fair looking to become more involved with their majors.
“I’ve been interested in finding new clubs to join. I’m mainly interested in biochemistry,” Emily Johnson, a junior in biochemistry, said. “I think the fair had a good variety of clubs, some that people might not have been aware of without it.”
