Person of the Week
Singer-Songwriter Billy Preston died this week at the age of 59. Preston gained prominence in the music industry after appearing on The Beatles’ Let it Be album. His presence at the tumultuous end of The Beatles came at the right time, as he helped the band get along long enough to finish the album and was sometimes referred to as “The Fifth Beatle.” Preston also appeared with The Rolling Stones, Joe Cocker and Bob Dylan. Preston was the first musical performer on NBC’s Saturday Night Live in 1975 and enjoyed a very successful solo career. Preston battled with drugs and alcohol from an early age and was incarcerated in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in the early 1990s. Preston slipped into a coma in November from a heart infection and died Tuesday after his condition deteriorated.
Coulter hits below the belt, Clinton there to hit back
In her new book, conservative pundit Ann Coulter criticized the widows of the 9/11 World Trade Center bombings by saying they acted as if the tragedy occurred only to them. New York Senator Hilary Clinton countered back by saying Coulter’s actions and book should be referred to as “heartless.” Coulter affirmed her sentiment that these women were taking advantage of their husbands’ death when she appeared on NBC’s Today Show and said the women were using the deaths of their husbands as a “political point.” Clinton countered back and said that if anyone was going to take advantage of these men’s deaths it would be her. Clinton for President 2008!
