Snoop Dogg, Mike Jones and Kanye West were all at the Black Finesse Modeling Troupe’s semi-annual fashion show Friday night – coming through the speakers, that is.
The models of the student organization “catwalked,” vouged and danced down the Stewart Theater stage-turned-runway to the rappers’ thumping rhythms. The choreographed scenes highlighting the troupe’s synchronized precision carried out the spring show’s “Malicious Intent” theme.
The influence of hip-hop designers Kimora Lee Simmons, P. Diddy and Jay-Z was evident in the mix of local designers, including DRC clothing, Adrina Graham and Milton Rogers, as well as local retail fashions. Students from Shaw University, Fayetteville State University and N.C. Central attended and voiced their approval of the fashions and their favorites models. The group’s fashion forecast for next season: bright, saturated colors; patent leather accessories; bubble hemlines and large bows on the shoulder; blazers and cool greys for men.
