The Elections Commission planned on working into the late hours of the night Tuesday after conducting a hearing on the eligibility of Student Senate president candidate Greg Doucette.
Brian Mathis, vice chair of the Elections Commission, filed a violation against Doucette for forging an e-mail header on an e-mail that advocated the addition of Matt Garcia, a senior in sport management and psychology, to the ballot for Student Senate a month ago.
“This was when I was listed as the technical administrator for Student Government,” Doucette said.
The Commission found Doucette innocent after hearing from both Mathis and Doucette. If the commission had found Doucette guilty of the accusation, he could have appealed to the Judicial Board, according to Commission Vice Chair Brian Mathis.
“Any votes for him [as Senate president] would have been counted as non-votes,” Mathis said.
According to Commission Chair Brittany Prater, the group planned to meet at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday to tally votes as part of a closed session and release the results soon after.
“We’ll tally votes as quickly as we can,” Prater said Tuesday evening. “It could take 30 minutes. It could take an hour and a half.”
Prater said the Commission would release the results on the Internet and announce them in the Senate Chambers.
According to Mathis, the most time-consuming part of tallying the votes is counting the write-ins.
“The results will be pretty accurate tonight, but they will not be the final say,” Mathis said.
