Pro FootballRivers avoids foot surgery
According to ESPN, former N.C. State star and current San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers will not have to undergo surgery on his injured right foot, team doctors said last week.
Rivers sprained the Lis Franc joint in his foot in the Chargers final regular-season game against the Arizona Cardinals on Dec. 31 and aggravated the sprain in the Chargers post-season loss to the New England Patriots on Jan. 14.
ESPN reported that team doctors informed Rivers he would not need surgery on the foot, and depending on his rehabilitation progress, he could be available for the start of the Chargers’ off-season training program, beginning March 19.
As a result of the foot injury, Rivers will not compete in this Saturday’s Pro Bowl in Hawaii. Rivers was selected to the AFC Pro Bowl team after throwing for 3,388 yards, 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions during the 2006 season.
