After the fuss and controversy, they killed it.
Student senators voted 34-13 to object to considering a bill to censure Student Body President Bobby Mills at Wednesday night’s Senate meeting, tabling the bill indefinitely.
Mills, a junior in political science and economics, said he wasn’t surprised because there was discussion of getting rid of the bill.
According to Mills, he wasn’t nervous or worried about the bill.
“It hasn’t changed me,” he said.
According to Sen. Adam Compton, a junior in agricultural business management, a lot of senators knew someone would object to the bill’s hearing at the meeting .
Compton voted no on the objection to consideration because he said “Bobby should have the opportunity to defend himself and dispute any charges that are in the bill.”
As it stands now, he said the bill will remain on the Student Government Web site in its current form.
“Any clauses that are false can’t be taken out because the bill was not even heard by the [Senate’s] Government Operations Committee,” Compton said.
According to Tony Howard, one of the sponsoring senators of the bill and senior in political science, he was optimistic about the bill but knew this outcome was a possibility.
“I was disappointed, but hopefully, it’ll serve its purpose,” he said.
Howard said he’s the type of person who would rather have discussion and debate about a bill before it gets killed but said, hopefully, Mills will evaluate his work because of it.
“If nothing does happen and things continue to progress, I would consider filing it again with the additional charges,” he said.
