Students and faculty access My Pack Portal, the new Web site for student, faculty, and staff resources that is serving as a replacement for Pack Tracks.
According to Nicole Wood, the registration and records assistant registrar, My Pack portal was created in order to implement a new student information system and non-Pack Tracks services through a more efficient portal than Pack Tracks.
“There was a need for a centralized location for all student, faculty, and staff information and services,” Wood said. “Instead of going to the Registration and Records Web site, and the Webmail Web site, and the WebCT Web site, students can go to the portal and access all of that information.”
Emily Proctor, a freshman in chemistry, said she’s not a fan of the new Web site.
“It’s confusing. I’ve never used it before, and I’ll have to learn to use it,” Proctor said. “Plus, it was an unexpected change. Pack Tracks was a lot simpler.”
Jodi Salzman, a senior in interdisciplinary studies, said PackTracks was understandable and a good site so there was no need to make a new one.
“Now it seems unorganized, like a bunch of stuff just thrown in there,” Salzman said.
Wood said that many of the initial responses about the new Web site were from people having difficulty navigating through the portal.
“We had the same type of issues two years ago when moved from TRACS Link to Pack Tracks,” she said. “Any new system will take some getting used to.”
Wanda Ramm, an English professor, said that the things that seemed most different to her were the all encompassing aspect of the new site.
“[I like] having all my information in one place, and having more steps to access everything,” she said. “Once I learned how to use them, I liked the new features.”
Joe Trotto, a freshman in engineering, echoed Ramm’s statement.
“Once you figure it out, it’s pretty easy to use. I like the new features overall,” Trotto said.
Wood said students, staff and faculty who are unhappy with My Pack should use the tutorials available on the Registration and Records website, www.ncsu.edu/registrar, and take advantage of the Feedback back button at the bottom of the My Pack Home tab, to aid in the transition of using My Pack Portal.
