After Friday night’s 3-1 loss to Miami at home, the volleyball team took on Florida State on Saturday night at Reynolds Coliseum and fell to the Seminoles 3-0.
Though it was two back-to-back night games, coach Charita Stubbs said Friday’s match against Miami was a match the team could have won.
“Sometimes it doesn’t mean that we have to play well to win, we just have to play for what is needed for that particular game,” Stubbs said.
Stubbs said Florida State was the most physical team they have seen before, particularly one of their players.
“[FSU junior outside hitter] Mira Djuric really amazed the girls that a female can hit the ball that hard, and so it kind of got us out of sync the entire time, and we’re still struggling with what we’ve been struggling with all year, and that’s ways to score points,” Stubbs said.
Ashley Wallace also said there was a difference between the two games.
“We played a little bit calmer this game, but [Friday] we came out stronger,” Wallace said.
State, at times, did keep the game close, and during time-outs, a number of players noted what Stubbs said to them.
Sophomore setter Allison Davis said Stubbs tried to keep them within team play, reiterating the point during timeouts.
“She just sits us down and calms us down,” Davis said.
Freshman libero Nikki Sweet said she felt certain things hurt the team and kept it from beating Florida State.
“I thought that we were a little inconsistent with our passing, which couldn’t get us into rhythm,” Sweet said. “That hurt us a lot.”
The Pack, 3-18 overall, is 0-11 in the ACC and are still looking for its first win in the ACC since 2005.
State will have an opportunity to snap its conference losing streak against Georgia Tech Friday in Atlanta.
