What’s happening? The No. 1 goal on sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Little’s mind is getting to the ACC Tournament. The Wolfpack is preparing for its upcoming game on Thursday against No. 3 Virginia.
Coach Laura Kerrigan said the team has created good opportunities setting up plays, and now all it needs to do is the last step of putting it in the goal. The Pack is going over the video from Sunday’s 1-0 loss against Duke and working on finishing its shots in the game.
“We need to finish our chances,” Little said. “We just finished watching a video, and we have so many opportunities in the game where it’s just that extra step, extra slide, extra touch that puts it in the back of the net.”
During practice the team talked and worked out everything that went wrong in the Duke game, and the players are determined on not making the same mistakes.
“We’re trying to pull together as a team, just really be there for each other and play for each other,” Little said. “That is really the most important thing for us right now.”
Little said it is going to be a very difficult game against Virginia with the Cavaliers, “extremely good team, their all around talent and their insane speed of play in soccer.”
“It’s going to be a very difficult game but if we came up from a win with that,” Little said. “Then that will just propel us for the rest of the season.”
Who’s Hot?From Sunday’s contest, sophomore defender Briana Cunningham is one to keep an eye on, as her shot that would have tied the game came after time ran out against Duke.
“Every week in training and with each game she has gotten better,” sophomore defender Katie Ruiz said.
Also Kara Baldy is still out due to her concussion in the Miami game. Kerrigan is hoping Baldy will be cleared for Thursday’s game, so watch out for Baldy making a return to the field.
What’s Next?N.C. State plays Virginia at Method Road Soccer Stadium on Thursday. The ACC match against the Cavaliers is one of the seven ACC games left for the Wolfpack.
