No major injuries resulted from a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Jackson Street and Gorman Street outside Wolf Village Apartments around 8 p.m. Monday, Officer Kevan Anderson of Campus Police said.
A green Chrysler Plymouth ran the stop sign on Jackson Street, then hit the front driver’s side of a white Honda CRV that was traveling on Gorman Street away from Western Boulevard.
“All I know is that a vehicle [was] headed eastbound on Jackson Street. [The Honda] was traveling north on Gorman, and they collided at the intersection,” Anderson said.
Eyewitness Nolan Brown, a sophomore in business management, said the vehicle he was a passenger in was nearly hit by the green mini van before the collision occurred. Brown’s car was traveling on Gorman Street toward Western.
“We were driving across, and she nearly hit us,” he said.
Brown said the driver of the mini van admitted she was distracted at the time and made no effort to stop at the traffic stop or even slow down.
“[She was] so busy that she was going to cross traffic at 40 miles per hour without looking,” he said.
According to Brown, the force of the collision caused the mini van to careen off and impacted the hood on the driver’s side of the Honda CRV.
The Raleigh Police Department will handle the case, which involved only nonstudents and occurred just outside of the jurisdiction of Campus Police, according to Anderson.
“It actually happened in Raleigh’s jurisdiction,” he said.
Campus Police arrived first on the scene and assisted Raleigh PD in the investigation.
