Football coach Tom O’Brien has not had an in-person audience for his radio show the past three weeks. The Monday after the Oct. 6 Florida State game, offensive coordinator Dana Bible and defensive coordinator Mike Archer filled in for O’Brien and did the show from a studio.
On Monday, Oct. 15, and this Tuesday, O’Brien was back on the show, but also took calls from a downtown studio rather than from Damon’s, where the show was at the start of the season.
Damon’s Grill, near the RBC Center, recently closed and left the show without its usual venue.
Brian Asbill, general manager of Wolfpack Sports Marketing, said the show is looking into options for having an in-person show for fans as soon as possible.
These possibilities, he said, include returning to Damon’s, if it is able to re-open soon, or moving the weekly call-in show to the Crabtree Valley Mall food court, the regular location for men’s basketball coach Sidney Lowe’s show.
A message for Brian Maloney of Damon’s seeking comment on the show was not returned on Tuesday.
Asbill said he hopes to have a plan for the show for the rest of the season by next week, but that next week’s show will likely still be in the studio.
If Damon’s doesn’t work out, he said he is confident the show can start soon at Crabtree. Lowe’s radio show is scheduled to start Nov. 12, and the two coaches will have a doubleheader for the Nov. 12, Nov. 19 and Nov. 26 shows, Asbill said. Lowe will go at 7 p.m. and O’Brien at 8 p.m. on those nights.
