What Happened? The team faced unranked UNC-Chapel Hill last weekend in its ACC opener and lost a heated battle 1-0.
It was a physical game as the Tar Heels racked up an incredible 21 fouls compared to 11 by the Wolfpack.
Carolina nearly doubled the number of shots taken by the Wolfpack, and State squandered numerous opportunities to score due to lack of communication on the offensive side of the ball.
The Pack stands at 3-2-1 overall.
Who’s Hot?Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Christopher Widman has started all six games and boasts a goals against average of 0.64. He has recorded two shutouts and has not allowed more than one goal in any game so far this season.
A pair of defenders, freshman Tyler Lassiter and sophomore Orry Powers, have aided Widman and are standing out in the early season. Lassiter has started every game as a true freshman, and Powers scored a goal earlier this season against Valparaiso.
Who’s Not?After losing forward Ronnie Bouemboue — a junior and member of the ACC All-Tournament Team last year — for the season due to a knee injury, the team has struggled to find the net, scoring only five times in 87 shot attempts.
Coach George Tarantini recently moved senior forward El Hadj Cisse up top, in an attempt alleviate State’s scoring woes.
“We have to get better,” Tarantini said. “It is a long season.”
