Hundreds of girls gathered on Harris Field at 5 p.m. Wednesday afternoon to find out which sorority to join.
Members of all the on-campus sororities came to meet their new sisters.
The event followed a week of Rush events. According to Dori Grossman, a junior in communication and member of Chi Omega, Bid Day provided a good ending to a busy week.
“The girls going through Rush find out if they got a bid and to which sorority,” Grossman said. “Bid Day is an exciting celebration.”
Grossman said she knew the pledges were excited to meet their new sisters, but the current members of each sorority were equally excited about meeting the pledges.
Melissa Nordan, a junior in communication and member of Chi Omega, remembered her experience with Bid Day last year.
“I was very excited,” Nordan said. “I was waiting all day to get my bid.”
Grossman agreed with Nordan, saying the level of excitement on Bid Day is always high.
“It was overwhelming, but exciting,” Grossman said. “You meet so many people at once.”
Nordan said planning for the event took several months.
“We started planning last spring,” she said. “It takes a lot of work, but pays off in the end.”
The process of Rush gave the members of the sororities, in addition to the pledges, a chance to meet a lot of sisters, Grossman said.
“It has given me a chance to see who I will become good friends with and form bonds with,” she said.
According to Nordan, prior to the event, neither the sisters nor the pledges knew who would be receiving bids for each sorority.
“It will be exciting for all of us involved to find out who is going where,” Nordan said.
After being selected for a sorority, the girls will be invited back to their new individual chapters to spend time getting to know their new sisters, Grossman said.
Each sorority have different traditions, but the new pledges of Chi Omega will be invited to dinner.
“Our sisters will have dinner and a chance to meet everyone in a less formal setting,” she said.
Nordan and Grossman agreed Bid Day was a fun day for everyone involved because it is an event that allows each girl to find a lot of new friends and meet the girls she will be spending the year getting to know.
