Repairs to a water main break will close one lane of Dan Allen Drive for an estimated five days while crews find and repair the rupture, according to Christine Klein, information and communication specialist for Transportation.
The rupture, which was reported Monday around 3:30 p.m., will have to first be located before it can be repaired.
“Crews anticipate starting work on the east side — near Miller Field — tomorrow,” Klein said in an e-mail Tuesday. “Traffic will continue to be one-lane northbound on Dan Allen Drive from Sullivan Drive to Cates Avenue.”
If the rupture is not located in the east lane, Facilities crews will then block off the westbound side of Dan Allen, which could take until Wednesday, Dec. 12, according to Facilities’ estimates.
Klein said the maintanence work will affect bus routes, namely Werewolf Route A.
The line will not make its routine stops at Talley Student Center; Cates Avenue, in front of Witherspoon; and Dan Allen Drive, near the Student Health Center, Klein said.
“Riders should pick up [the outbound] bus atCarmichael Gym,” she said. “The route will run as usual after that [stop].”
The in-bound Werewolf Route A will not be affected, nor will parking access from Western Blvd. to the Student Health parking lot, Klein said.
Up-to-date information about delays and traffic patterns on Dan Allen Drive can be found on the NCSU Web site and at the the affected bus stops, according to Klein.
Despite efforts to minimize inconvenience for commuters, Klein said the best idea is to find an alternate route.
“If at all possible, avoid Dan Allen Drive,” she said. “Use Pullen Road or Gorman Street.”
