After a four and a half hour wait, Jim Ceresnak was declared the student body president for the 2009-2010 school year early Wednesday morning. Ceresnak was appreciative of the student’s choice, and acknowledged how much effort he had put into his campaign.
“I poured my heart and soul into this campaign,” Ceresnak, a junior in political science, said. “It is an honor to have the opportunity to serve the student body.”
The four and a half hour wait was much longer than originally projected. Andrew Tucker, the election commission chair, said the delays came from all the write-in votes.
“We took every entry seriously,” Tucker, a senior in political science, said. He also said, with the exception of the write-ins, the elections were “fairly smooth.”
Jay Dawkins, the current student body president and senior class president-elect, said his election was an exciting moment.
“Now it’s time to get to work,” Dawkins, a junior in civil engineering said.
Kelli Rogers, the current senate pro tempore will be next year’s Student Senate president after running an unopposed campaign. Also winning unopposed races were Elmo Lamm, a freshman in business administration, who will be the next student body treasurer. Margo Sauter, a junior in mechanical engineering, elected UAB President, and Al S. McArthur, a senior in technology education, was chosen to be on the Student Media board of directors.
