According to Mary Tetro, coordinator of pre-law services, former First Lady Mary Easley was on campus Monday continuing her work with the pre-law center.
Chancellor James Oblinger today publically called for Mrs. Easley’s resignation.
Easley was in charge of the University’s Millenium Seminar Series and was also working toward the creation of a dual-degree program with Campbell University, which is moving its law school to Raleigh. Easley and her husband, former Gov. Mike Easley, have been involved in a controversy concerning the couple’s relationship with former Board of Trustees chairman McQueen Campbell. Campbell resigned Friday, one day after Provost Larry Nielsen resigned, citing stress from the backlash of his hiring of Mary Easley in 2005.
Tetro did not work closely with Easley, as Tetro is mostly charged with the student services aspect of the pre-law program while Easley works more closely with law schools, but the two had a meeting this morning in the University’s co-op office and discussed plans for next year.
“We were talking about initiating a program with the co-op office in dealing with internships for next year,” Tetro said.
Tetro said she was not involved or aware of many happenings with the Easley situation, but added the situation was unfortunate.
“I don’t hang at the top,” Tetro said of her knowledge of the Easley situation. “I’ve been here a long time, and I think its painful to see this happenng at this institution.”
