Gov. Bev Perdue has accepted the resignation of Board of Trustees chair McQueen Campbell.
Perdue issued a statement Friday confirming the alum would be stepping down from his position on the Board of Trustees.
“I have accepted McQueen Campbell’s resignation today and believe it is in the best interest of N.C. State University,” Perdue said Friday.
Campbell insists in his letter that the hiring process of former First Lady Mary Easley was not a part of a political favor.
“Both the chancellor and the provost have communicated publicly and independently that the hiring process of Mary Easley was free from any improper influence. At all times I have acted in a manner that reflects the University’s high standards of integrity while doing so to the very best of my ability.”
Campbell states his stepping down is not because he “acted inappropriately,” but is instead to rid the University of further distractions which could come with his continued service.
“I step today aside because I want what is best for N.C. State,” the letter reads.
