James H. Woodward, UNC Charlotte’s third chancellor, will be the new interim chancellor after James Oblinger’s resignation Monday morning. Woodward taught engineering at N.C. State early in his career. He served as dean of engineering and senior vice president of academic affairs at University of Alabama at Birmingham until 1989 when he became chancellor at UNC-Charlotte. Woodward served as chancellor there for 16 years, stepping down June 30, 2005. Woodward Hall at UNC-Charlotte was dedicated in his honor on Nov. 16, 2005. He continued to teach in the engineering department and holds the honorary title of Chancellor Emeritus.
