Head coach Wes Moore of the No. 17 NC State women’s basketball team was named the Blue Ribbon Panel Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year, the league office announced Wednesday. Moore has led the team to a 22-7 (12-4 ACC) record with signature wins against No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 8 Florida State.
Moore is the first head coach in program history to ever receive this award in its 34-year history. Under Moore’s four-year tenure with the team, the Wolfpack has posted an 85-41 (40-24 ACC) record and is on track to earn its second NCAA Tournament berth.
Throughout his career, Moore has an overall record of 643-210 under his belt. Moore has posted 27 winning seasons, with 10 of those being 25-win seasons, and 22 postseason appearances. Winning this award gives him 12 Coach of the Year honors throughout his career.
This season, Moore led the Wolfpack to a 14-2 record at home and tied for fourth place in the ACC standings. Despite its ranking, the Wolfpack was able to beat each of the other top-four teams in the conference. The Pack went 7-3 away from Reynolds this year, which includes wins against FSU and No. 14 Louisville.
The Pack ended the season on a two-game winning streak, including a victory against archrival UNC-Chapel Hill on senior night at Reynolds Coliseum.
The ACC Tournament began play Wednesday in Conway, South Carolina. Since it earned a double-bye, NC State will play the winners of No. 5 Louisville and No. 13 Clemson on Friday at 11 a.m.
