Check out some exciting events NC State has to offer this upcoming week.
March 21: “Truth Seeking by the Lights of Perverted Science: Exposing the Flint Water Disaster,” a lecture presented by Marc Edwards.
Tuesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Duke Energy Hall at Hunt Library
Marc Edwards, professor of civil and environmental engineering at Virginia Tech, was named one of the most influential people in the world by Time, Fortune, Politico and Foreign Policy magazine in 2016. Edwards’ research aided in uncovering lead-contaminated drinking water in Washington, D.C. from 2001-04, and the ongoing Flint water crisis. The event is free and open to the public.
March 22: Make Music: Artist Presentation with Nicholas Sanborn of Sylvan Esso and Made of Oak
Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. in the auditorium at the Hunt Library
Nicholas Sanborn of Sylvan Esso will talk about his creative process, live performances and using tools such as Ableton to make his music. The event is free and open to the public.
March 23-24: Panoramic Dance Project Concert
Thursday and Friday from 8-10 p.m. in the Stewart Theatre in Talley Student Union
The Panoramic Dance Project is an NC State dance company that explores diverse dance styles. Themes such as race, storm, water conservation, loneliness and addiction will be present in dances by guest artists, including Baba Chuck Davis and CONTRA-TIEMPO, and NC State Dance Program Director Tara Z. Mullins. Tickets are $5 for NC State students and $10 for faculty.
March 24: Physicist Lawrence Krauss’ “The Greatest Story Ever Told — So Far”
Friday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the D.H. Hill Library auditorium
Renowned theoretical physicist Lawrence M. Krauss, head of the physics department at Arizona State University, will be talking about his new book. It discusses reality, how we find our place in it, and what’s subliminally imbedded in our everyday experiences. The event is free.
March 26: The NC State Singing Statesmen and UNC Men’s Glee Club Concert
Sunday from 3-4:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church (305 East Main St. Durham, NC 27701)
The NC State men’s choir, the Singing Statesmen, the UNC-Chapel Hill Men’s Glee Club and the Triangle’s Vox Virorum Men’s Chorus present “March Gladness.” The three groups join for a harmonious concert. Admission is free.
*March 27: TUFFtalks: “Pursuit of Happiness”
Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Stewart Theatre in Talley Student Union
The Union Activity Board will be presenting a TUFFtalk on the pursuit of happiness. NC State students will be providing answers on what their own pursuit of happiness is. he pursuit of happiness calls upon each of us to look at our identities and passions in the context of society to seek out what we want most in life. The event will be followed by a reception with refreshments.
March 28: Women’s History Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Speaker, Jackson Katz
The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. in the State Ballroom in Talley Student Union
Jackson Katz is an educator, filmmaker and author of “The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and How All Men Can Help” and “Leading Men: Presidential Campaigns and the Politics of Manhood.” He is the founder and director MVP Strategies, which is an initiative that educates institutions in public and private sectors on gender violence prevention. The event is free.
