Every month, shows arrive and part ways with Netflix. Check out 10 must-watch series, Netflix Originals, films and cult classics to keep on your radar this April.
‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ (April 1)
In this horror-fantasy film, a serial killer hunts teenagers in their dreams, which actually kills them in reality.
‘Something’s Gotta Give’ (April 1)
Jack Nicholson stars as a swinger who is getting a taste of what it’s like to be a senior citizen as his health deteriorates. In the most unlikely circumstances, he falls in love with woman close to his age.
‘Gremlins’ (April 1)
In this 1984 classic, a boy obtains a pet for Christmas and breaks the three rules crucial to its care. Havoc ensues with the mischievous creature.
’Tropic Thunder’ (April 1)
Ben Stiller parodies the movie industry in his rendition of a Vietnam War film. When a group of self-righteous film stars is dropped in the middle of a forest, things go drastically wrong. While the movie may be controversial, it’s an archetypal parody. The plot lines are thin and the characters intentionally lack depth; one is not meant to sympathize with the characters. Its unanticipated cameos and shock comedy make for a noteworthy cult classic.
‘Louis C.K. 2017’ (April 4)
In this standup special, C.K. treads on universal topics such as marriage, parenting and death — resulting in a refreshingly approachable routine.
‘Win It All’ (April 7)
Reluctant gambler Eddie Garrett agrees to watch a duffel bag while an acquaintance is in prison. When he discovers there’s $50,000 in the bag, he gives in and ends up in debt. When the prison release is shortened, Eddie must find a way to win the money back before his acquaintance gets out of person.
‘Documentary Now!: Season 2’ (April 10)
Fred Armisen and Bill Hader spoof famous documentaries and the genre itself. For example, the 1969 documentary “Salesmen” is parodied as “Globesmen,” a film about men who sell globes. Moreover, “Bunker” takes a hit at “The War Room,” (1992) one of the most famous political documentaries of all time.
‘Sandy Wexler’ (April 14)
Adam Sandler stars as Sandy Wexler in this Netflix Original comedy. The film is set in Los Angeles in the ‘90s and follows the life of Wexler, who’s a talent manager for star clients. He then falls in love with his newest client, Courtney Clarke (Jennifer Hudson).
‘Bill Nye Saves the World: Season 1’ (April 21)
Bill Nye brings his enthusiasm in a talk show format showcasing issues that are relevant to politics, popular culture and society as a whole. The series covers topics such as climate change, alternative medicine, video games and sex.
‘The 101-Year-Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared’ (April 25)
In this Swedish black comedy, an ex-spy and his friend set out on a mission to obtain a valuable Soviet soda formula. Chaos entails as the CIA chases the duo.
